ZAFER GÜLENÇ
Zafer was born in Izmir (Turkey) after high school he studied at the conservatorium. After that he was working at TRT radio, television and as a choire singer. From 1997 he lives in the Netherlands and he studied 2002 light music- jazz percussion at the Artez conservatorium in Enschede till 2002. besides eastern and Turkish instruments Zafer plays also Latin- Americans, Africans percussion and rhythm- instruments. At this moment is Zafer a teacher djembé working at the Boogie Woogie-institute for art (school of music) and culture- at Winterswijk and he gives percussion and music lessons to different schools.
SINGER
Zafer started to sing when he was seven. He sings all kinds of world music varieties such as rai Arabic, Turkish, Greek and Balcan music. Espescially he sings his own songs.
COMPOSE
Besides instrumental experience he composes his own music on his own way. He composes also all kinds of music like pop, raimusic, turkish classic, folk, and Dutch ethics. At this moment Zafer is making his new album.
BOOKS
Zafer wrote his first Dutch SAZ book for schools and music lovers. He also wrote a darbuka method.
INSTRUMENTS
From his father he got a keyboard from Singapore and he started to learn playing it, but his mother wanted him to follow piano lessons. He started to follow classic piano lessons when he was 10 till he was 13. After that he starting playing percussion instruments. The following project was learning how to play the ud (ut) from the famous Turkish classic music component Sadi Hosses. Later on he studied at the conservatorium and he succeeded successfully. After his exam he started at the TRT choire.
Oriéntal EXPRES
Zafer has an Orientals band who performs all over the Netherlands and Europe. The sphere is Arabic- Turkish, East-European rhythms meeting his own rhythm arrangements He also performs with his talented band members.
